Independent borrower awareness initiative • India

Your debt does not take away your dignity.

Financial difficulty should never become an excuse for intimidation, threats, humiliation, or harassment. Find practical information about payday loan traps, recovery practices, borrower rights, and complaint options.

Being in debt is not a crime. Repayment obligations still matter, but borrowers deserve respectful and lawful treatment. If you face an immediate threat, contact local police or emergency services.
Why we exist

Information. Support. Dignity.

Stop Loan Harassment is an independent awareness project built to help people navigate financial distress with clearer information. We focus on practical steps, respectful communication, documenting misconduct, and finding appropriate complaint channels.

01 / LEARN

Understand the trap

Learn how short repayment periods, fees, repeat borrowing, and multiple loans can create mounting pressure.

02 / PREPARE

Take informed steps

Organize loan records, assess what you can afford, and request written restructuring or settlement terms.

03 / SPEAK UP

Document misconduct

Keep relevant evidence and use official lender, regulator, consumer, or cybercrime channels where appropriate.

Payday loan awareness

Before taking another short-term loan

Check the total cost

Look beyond the advertised amount. Review disbursal deductions, interest, fees, penalties, and the actual repayment date.

Verify the lender

Identify the actual lending entity and check the loan agreement, Key Facts Statement, and official grievance contact.

Avoid a debt spiral

Taking a new expensive loan to repay an old one can deepen financial distress. Compare safer alternatives before borrowing.

Know your rights

Debt collection should not involve abuse

Rules and complaint routes depend on the lender and circumstances. For RBI-regulated entities and their agents, applicable fair-practice and recovery guidelines prohibit intimidation and harassment.

Respectful communication

Threats, abusive language, and public humiliation are not acceptable recovery practices.

Privacy matters

Unnecessary disclosure of your debt to unrelated third parties may raise serious privacy and conduct concerns.

Ask for written records

Request account statements, charges, official payment instructions, and written confirmation of any agreed repayment arrangement.

Educational information only; not legal advice. Check current official rules and obtain qualified advice for your situation.

Practical next steps

What to do if recovery calls become abusive

Step 1

Preserve evidence

Keep dates, phone numbers, messages, call logs, and lawful recordings. Do not publish other people's private details.

Step 2

Write to the lender

Use the official grievance channel. Describe specific incidents, ask for the conduct to stop, and request a written response.

Step 3

Escalate appropriately

For eligible RBI-regulated entities, review the RBI complaint portal. Eligibility and waiting periods apply.

Step 4

Report threats or cyber abuse

For suspected cybercrime in India, visit cybercrime.gov.in. For immediate danger, contact police.

Never share OTPs, passwords, banking login details, or unredacted identity documents with unknown callers.

A lived experience

Why this project matters

This initiative grew from a simple belief: nobody facing financial hardship should feel isolated or silenced by the fear of debt recovery.

We are building a space to share lessons from real experiences, explain practical options, and help others recognize harmful collection behavior. A fuller personal account and community stories will be added with care, privacy, and consent.

We do not publish unverified allegations or identifying details about individuals.
